A 2400 square foot house design grew into three distinct elements. A simple rectangular 3 story stucco clad form is the dominant element and this contains the living, family, and bedroom functions. The 2 car garage and attached masonry site walls defined the outdoor living spaces around the house and the tall wood clad rectangular stair tower form the interlock between indoor spaces. The three elements together form a composition at an urban scale that is visually interesting and doesn't rely on the simple materials and details to carry the design. The orientation of the site was such that once the viewer got to the second level, views of downtown and the front range dominated the skyline. To take advantage of these views, the two story tall family room was placed on the second level and the master bedroom suite was placed at the top of the structure capturing views and light from the South, West, and North. The kitchen, dining, and living rooms were organized on the first floor to take advantage of the outdoor spaces.

Completed: Summer 2007.
