Sited at 47th Avenue and Vine Street in north Denver, the 5,000-square-foot structure was designed to fit with this 100-year-old transitional neighborhood in scale and texture, yet provide a civic anchor to a place that has been all but physically separated from the rest of the city.

The building is organized around a long, central reading room dominated by a curved wood ceiling that appears to float above a large band of clerestory windows. Artificial and natural light are balanced in this space to utilize maximum daylighting.

Named "Best New Building" in 1996 by Denver's Westword newspaper.
